WORK, WORK, WORK

WEEKLY RECYCLE COLLECTION

You've heard, "The Earth Patrol will be standing by in the main halls to help you with your class recycle bins".  That's because every Wednesday is recycle day and the Earth Patrol does just that - HELPS you.  However, it takes ALL of us to make this routine a success.

1. Students and staff place recyclable items in the correct containers.
2. Students bring their class bins out into the main hallway on Wednesdays.
3. The Earth Patrol helps dump the class bins into the larger "wheelie bins".
4. Students return their empty bins to their classrooms.
5. The Earth Patrol collects recyclable items from other rooms like the library and staff room.
6. The Earth Patrol cleans up the mess left behind and then return to class.

DEAD BATTERY COLLECTION
Ms. Laforet collects dead batteries in two metal containers outside her classroom door.  Regular reminders to bring dead batteries to school are advertised in the "Prince Edward Pacer" (the school newsletter).  Students and staff bring in their dead batteries and place them in the containers.

These dead batteries would otherwise likely find their way into the landfill.  The chemicals in the dead batteries would not be good for the environment and the metal would not be recycled to make new products.

At the end of the school year, the dead batteries are taken away to be disposed of properly at the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority.
This is a much more environmentally responsible thing to do.  Thank you to all students and staff for taking the time to do the right thing.

JUICE POUCH COLLECTION
There are much better, and less expensive, ways in which to bring your drink to school.  Reusable bottles are great, and water is a cheap healthy refreshing drink.

But, if you are going to use juice pouches like Kool-Aid Jammers, the least you could do is donate them to Terra-Cycle.  The school will make a little money and they'll get made into some nifty recycled items.  Mme. Aiton and her crew have started running this program in a couple of classes for now and plan to expand over time.  Stay tuned for updates regarding www.terracycle.ca.

WASTELESS WEDNESDAYS
Bring a wasteless lunch to school on Wednesdays and get a chance to win a prize on our Thursday PA announcements.  But really, we want you to bring a wasteless lunch EVERY day.  Thanks to Ms. Kelly and her crew for making the rounds to our lunch rooms every Wednesday, handing out ballots for prizes.  If you can help by donating prizes, let Ms. Kelly or Ms. Walker know.
